Yakuza: Like a Dragon departs from its long-running action-based battle system to turn-based. He eventually leads into a path of becoming a hero while being supported by other playable characters and allies he meets along the way. He sets out on his personal journey to uncover the truth while also facing other yakuza, triad, and Korean gangsters and criminals along the way. Kasuga wakes up half-naked under a pile of trash within Yokohama. He was thrown away and eventually shot in the chest. He returns to his Yakuza clan patriarch, Masumi Arakawa, but he was forgotten. The game is coming off from Kasuga’s finished 18-year imprisonment. Unlike the previous protagonist, Kazamu Kiryu, Kasuga is an emotional and outspoken character. Yakuza: Like a Dragon is set at Isezaki Ijincho, a district in Yokohama, and focuses on the life of Ichiban Kasuga. Yakuza: Like a Dragon will offer both Japanese and English audio to the player. Also, the game is doing away its brawler and beat’ em up mechanics for a turn-based battle style.

The game still takes place in the same world of the Yakuza series but shifts away from Tokyo and features to a new protagonist. Yakuza: Like a Dragon is the seventh title of the Yakuza series but the number is removed in the English version since the release is being marketed as a soft reboot of the franchise. Yakuza: Like a Dragon, also known as Ryuu ga Gotoku 7: Hikari to Yami no Yukue (龍が如く7 光と闇の行方), is a single-player adventure/role-playing game developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, known for their other titles such as the Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise, Judgement, and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD.
